Let's start with BIOS updates. There aren't any... well, working ones that is. The releases they have for updates will ONLY work if you don't use your operating system. for example, if you're using linux and you've actually installed something which effects the kernel, for example xen, suddenly their BIOS updates won't work. Never fear though, they have a bootable disk... without the update, which you can put into a program dell wrote, also not working and compile your own version of the BIOS update. Expect this to take about 2 weeks of your time. That's right, 2 weeks to install a patch.

One company I worked for bought 64 Dell servers, these were top of the line when we purchaced them. within 1 week over 50 of them had broken floppy drive fronts. After 2 weeks every door had been snapped off. Dell outsources the making of their plastic to China which then produces a very cheap brittle version. one wich you can expect to last less than a month if you don't treat it as if it were thin blown glass.

If you pay for support.. the BEST support, meaning they promise to have your server up and running in 4 hours. You can expect an average downtime of 2-4 weeks.

Dell makes cheap machines or expensive boat anchors. However you want to say it. They are the new Packard Bell.
